The recent release of the ?Worst Charities? list on CNN and other major networks includes organizations with similar names to the IAFF?s charities, including ?Firefighters Charitable Foundation? and the ?Firefighters Burn Fund.? The IAFF and its Charitable Foundation are in no way affiliated with any of these charities, which use names mimicking reputable organizations to prey on the good nature of people who want to contribute to worthy causes.
June 14, 2013 ? Three large fires are burning across the state of Colorado, scorching thousands of acres of land and hundreds of homes, including seven belonging to IAFF members. Reports are that five members from Colorado Local 5, one from West Metro Local 1309 and one from Canyon City Local 1002 have damaged or destroyed homes.
June 12, 2013 ? The IAFF proudly welcomes San Antonio, TX Local 624 member Roger Lopez as the new IAFF-MDA Coordinator. Lopez has spent many years dedicating his time to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and the IAFF.
June 6, 2013 ? In a busy week for the fire service on Capitol Hill, three IAFF-backed amendments funding critical fire service programs were adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives. The amendments, which were added to the Fiscal Year 2014 appropriation bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), increased funding for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and Assistance to Firefighters (FIRE Act) grant programs, the Urban Search and Rescue Response System (US&R) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA).

May 23, 2013 -- A House panel has voted to approve an IAFF-backed amendment extending the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) waivers for one additional year, through Fiscal Year 2014. The vote occurred as the House Appropriations Committee considered legislation funding the Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2014.
May 22, 2012 ? The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has begun announcing grant awards for the Fiscal Year 2012 grant period. The announcements will continue on a rolling basis until all available funds have been awarded. May 21, 2013 -- Approximately 1,700 IAFF members are located in the path of the massive tornados that devastated Moore, Oklahoma and a number of other Oklahoma cities, as well as communities in Kansas. The IAFF remains in communication with IAFF District Vice Presidents and state and affiliate leaders whose members are affected by these storms. Together, we have begun damage assessments, and the need for relief to IAFF members affected by the storm is critical.
